    Additional Security for Your Dropbox

Dropbox makes it very easy to back-up, share and sync files with other Dropbox users across computers, smartphones, and tablets. But to make sure that all your data at Dropbox is completely under your control, Boxcryptor adds an additional security layer. With this client-side zero knowledge encryption your data is protected in the best way possible.

    Seamless Integration

    Seamless Integration

On Windows and macOS Boxcryptor creates a virtual drive, detects Dropbox and adds it to the Boxcryptor drive. Afterward you can easily encrypt your existing data with one click. We recommend creating a new folder, select to encrypt it and then move your sensitive data into that folder. Everything you save to or move into this folder will be encrypted automatically. On the mobile versions, Dropbox is detected automatically as well.

    Questions and Answers

    Does Boxcryptor support Smart Sync?

Yes, we do support Dropbox Smart Sync. Find out about the details on our blog.

Can I use Dropbox Business with Boxcryptor?

Yes, you can. Boxcryptor and Dropbox Business work perfectly together. This combination makes your business data available wherever you are, in a simple and secure way. For companies that want to use Dropbox securely, this is a good combination.

Can users still share links with friends and colleagues, even with encryption?

Of course. Files and folders can easily be shared with other Boxcryptor users. For friends and colleagues who do not have a Boxcryptor account, we created Whisply to help share files securely.

Does Boxcryptor use up more storage space on my PC or Mac?

No, Boxcryptor does not use up more or double the space. Some users fear that we store files twice on the machine, encrypted, and unencrypted. This is not the case; the files are only stored once.

How can the trustworthiness of the software be verified?

Boxcryptor has been tested for security and vulnerabilities in an independent audit. The audit was carried out by the security firm Kudelski Security, with consistently positive results. Amongst other things, the insight into the code shows that no serious vulnerabilities were found by the security company. The full report is available on our blog.

    How secure is Dropbox?

Unlike hard drives, for example, data stored in the cloud is very well protected, as physical events like fires or burglaries can not affect your cloud-stored data. Nevertheless, individuals and companies have to secure files that they save in a cloud since many cloud storage providers do not offer end-to-end encryption. With Boxcryptor, you can encrypt your data before uploading it in the cloud.
